Celebrating Creativity and Innovation on World Creativity and Innovation Day

#wciw2018 celebration

We, at Lyminality, are celebrating creativity and the freedom it offers to each and everyone one of us.

"It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." Albert Einstein

And what if this teacher's role was fluid? What if this teacher could be anyone from a little child to an adult, at home or outside? Would it not then become the collective responsibility of all of us to awaken this joy in whoever we meet? Wouldn't that be wonderful?

I believe creativity opens up young minds and encourages them to become free and fearless. It frees us from the 'Perfection bug' that stops us from being our true selves.

We have spent the last 15 days celebrating this freedom by way of learning and experimenting with some new skills for our learners.

1. Doodling

We have conducted our 'Doodle Caboodle' workshops for children and adults. The primary objective was to enable the participants to break free from the preconceived ideas about art. This workshop allowed the participants to experiment, explore, and experience the magic and thrill of creating spectacular art with freehand pen-on-paper style drawing that needed no prior art experience. Imagine the excitement! 2. Journaling and Hand lettering Workshop

"Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn't really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That's because they were able to connect experiences they've had and synthesize new things." Steve Jobs And Journalling is that art that gives one the courage to look at one's story. It allows us to look at our own life story to honor and celebrate it. It offers an opportunity to design what we want from our experiences in the future. We explored this wonderful opportunity with children and adults during our workshop providing tools to creatively start their Journalling journey not only as a regular practice but as an activity to look forward to every day.

3. Calligraphy

Calligraphy is the art of producing decorative handwriting or lettering with a pen or brush and there is this soothing and meditative quality to it. The participants carried with them a new skill and curiosity to explore newer and more creative ways to express themselves.

Our celebrations focused on bringing about change in the way the participants think about creativity, to know that creativity is not just about art but a way of thinking and being.

We believe trust and respect, both for oneself and others, are the foundations of a healthy society. The workshops we conduct focus on these with a firm belief that ‘change is possible’.

We finish with a bang, today, the 21st of April 2018, on the World International Creativity and Innovation Day hoping that we keep the essence of this celebration within us and awaken it in those we meet as well.

We are featured here in the UN's wciw website.
